Initiatives & Programs
At the Bahamas Football Association (BFA), we believe in the power of football to transform lives and communities. Our programs go beyond just playing the game—they’re designed to provide opportunities for youth development, promote inclusivity, and uplift communities through sport. Below are some of our key initiatives:
Smart Goals
The SMART GOALS initiative, a partnership between the Bahamas Football Association and the Ministry of Education, is a key pillar of youth soccer development. It pairs football clubs with local primary, junior, and senior high schools to provide students with the skills needed to excel in both soccer and life.
Through this program, participants not only develop soccer techniques but also gain important life values such as leadership, discipline, and teamwork. Each club partners with schools to offer regular training sessions, competitions, and personal development programs, ensuring sustainable soccer growth across The Bahamas.
SMART GOALS emphasizes building character and offering students opportunities to excel both on and off the field, helping to develop the next generation of Bahamian leaders.
Beach Ballers: After-School Edition
The Beach Ballers program is an after-school beach soccer initiative hosted by the BFA at the Beach Soccer Stadium. This program provides students with a safe, engaging environment to continue their development through football beyond the classroom.
With structured sessions led by qualified coaches, participants strengthen their technical skills, improve fitness, and build confidence—all while enjoying the unique setting of beach soccer. The program supports youth development by creating meaningful pathways for play, growth, and mentorship after school hours.
Footsteps: In-School Soccer Experience
Footsteps is an in-school soccer program designed for preschools and smaller institutions that may not have access to on-campus playing facilities. Conducted at the Roscow A.L. Davies Fields and Beach Soccer Stadium, the initiative integrates football into the school curriculum as a physical education activity.
Students are introduced to the game in a fun, age-appropriate setting, focusing on movement, coordination, and basic football skills. Footsteps ensures that all children, regardless of their school’s resources, have the opportunity to engage with the sport as part of their educational journey.
Center of Excellence
The BFA’s Center of Excellence is an elite program designed to shape the next generation of Bahamian football talent. Through structured training, specialized camps, and high-level coaching, the Center focuses on both player and coach development. With programs starting at age 13, players progress through development and performance stages, receiving world-class training aligned with modern football methodologies.
The Center’s goal is to prepare players for national teams, scholarships, and ultimately, professional success, while building responsible citizens along the way.
Spare a Boot
The Spare a Boot initiative is a community-driven program where we collect and distribute new or gently used soccer boots to players in need. No child should be held back by a lack of equipment, and through this initiative, we ensure that every aspiring footballer has the opportunity to participate in the game with the necessary gear. Donations of boots in all sizes are welcome and greatly appreciated.
BFA Breakfast Program
During the Dawn N. Knowles Primary School Soccer Tournament, the BFA Breakfast Program provides free breakfast to all participants for the duration of the tournament. We recognize the importance of proper nutrition in helping young athletes perform their best both on the field and in the classroom. This program ensures that all players are well-nourished and energized, contributing to their overall well-being and success.
Community Outreach & Support
The BFA’s Community Outreach & Support initiatives reinforce our commitment to serving communities beyond the pitch. Through partnerships with groups like the Department of Immigration and Special Olympics Bahamas, we support youth engagement, inclusion, and community trust. Our efforts range from football-based outreach programs and fun days to equipment donations and support for athletes with intellectual disabilities, using the game to bring people together.
Notable Initiatives:
- Longstanding support for Special Olympics Bahamas through donations and joint community events.
- Collaborative outreach programs with the Department of Immigration, including youth football activities and officer-led community sessions.
- Continued support for clubs and schools in impacted regions, ensuring access to football and sports programs during recovery, helping communities rebuild through the spirit of sport.
- In 2019, the BFA shipped essential supplies to Grand Bahama in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, assisting local football families in need.
