Bahamian Sheryl Evans, of McPherson College, was recently named as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Defensive Player of the Week.
The 5’9″ senior goalkeeper was selected for her performance during the week of October 17-23 by a vote of conference sports information directors. Evans led the McPherson College Bulldogs to a 2-0 win/loss record during the week, and the Bulldogs are 9-4 overall.
This is the second time this season that Evans has earned the award.
During the week, she made 12 saves, including nine against Ottawa to secure a come-from-behind win on the road. The Ottawa Braves were credited with 30 shots overall in the contest but couldn’t get any to find the back of the net.
For the Bulldogs, the win against Ottawa was their first since 2007. Since then, they compiled an 0-8-1 record, and the Bulldogs were outscored 19-1 during that stretch.
Evans continued her stellar play for the week in the Bulldogs 3-0 win over the Southwestern College Lady Builders. She picked up her sixth clean sheet of the season in that win. Evans was credited with three saves against the Lady Builders.
The KCAC Offensive Player of the Week honor went to Dalia Fernandez of Friends University. Like Evans, this was the second time that Fernandez won the award. The 5’2″ junior is a midfielder for the Friends University Falcons, and led them to a 2-0 record during the week. They are 10-6 overall.
The Bulldogs play out of McPherson, Kansas, while the Falcons play out of Wichita, Kansas.
