NASSAU, The Bahamas — The Bahamas Football Association (BFA) officially launched the inaugural 2026 U15 Girls Goombay Cup on Tuesday, introducing Team Bahamas and outlining final preparations for the regional tournament during a press conference at the VVIP Room of the Beach Soccer Stadium.
The tournament, scheduled for July 24–26 at Roscow A. L. Davies Field, will bring together Under-15 Girls National Teams from The Bahamas, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Grenada, Turks & Caicos Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands for three days of international competition, providing young players with valuable match experience while continuing the development of women’s football across the Caribbean.
Speaking at the press conference were Daria Adderley, BFA Council Member responsible for Women’s Football Development; Bruce Swan, Competition Director; Ricqea Bain, Head Coach of the Bahamas U15 Girls National Team; and Team Bahamas captains Kallie Mackey and Kacie Cooper.
Welcoming the participating nations, Adderley said the tournament represents more than competition.
“The Goombay Cup is more than a tournament. It is an opportunity to inspire and develop the next generation of women’s football in our region while showcasing the passion, talent and sportsmanship of our young athletes.”
Swan explained that the Goombay Cup was created after the cancellation of this year’s Concacaf Under-15 Championship, ensuring that young players across the region would still have access to meaningful international competition.
“This tournament fills an important gap after the Concacaf Under-15 Championship was cancelled, ensuring our players still receive meaningful international competition as they prepare for next year’s Concacaf Under-17 Qualifiers.”
He noted that interest from across the Caribbean exceeded expectations, with multiple football associations confirming participation almost immediately after invitations were extended.
For Bain, preparation has centered on ensuring every member of the squad is ready to contribute throughout the demanding tournament schedule.
“Every player who steps onto the field has a purpose, and we want to maintain the same intensity from the opening whistle to the final minute.”
She added that the tournament presents an opportunity not only for football development but also for personal growth, allowing young athletes to build confidence, friendships and lifelong memories through the sport.
Representing the players, Mackey said the team has focused on mastering the fundamentals while building strong communication on the field.
“Communication has been one of our biggest areas of focus because it’s one of the most important parts of the game. When we communicate well, we play with confidence and perform better as a team.”
Cooper echoed those sentiments, saying the players are eager to showcase the progress they have made throughout their preparation.
“We’ve worked hard both technically and physically throughout our preparation, and we’re ready to showcase everything we’ve learned when we step onto the field.”
The tournament is expected to showcase some of the Caribbean’s brightest young footballers while providing local supporters with an opportunity to experience high-level youth international football in The Bahamas. In addition to the on-field action, patrons can enjoy food vendors, entertainment and a family-friendly atmosphere throughout the three-day event.
