NASSAU, The Bahamas — May 23, 2026— FIFA, in collaboration with the Bahamas Football Association and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, recently hosted a Football for Schools Capacity Building Workshop and Launch Event in The Bahamas.
The three-day programme was held from May 20–22, 2026, at the Beach Soccer Stadium and included training for high school soccer coaches ahead of the 2026 Samuel P. Haven High School Soccer Nationals.
The FIFA Football for Schools programme uses football as a tool to support education, personal development and the empowerment of boys and girls. Developed in collaboration with UNESCO, the programme combines football activities with age-appropriate life-skills education designed to promote positive social change.
Workshop sessions were led by Antonio Buenaño, Senior Football for Schools Manager; Alberto Giacomini, Football for Schools Technical Consultant; and BFA Technical Director Bruce Swan.
Participating coaches were introduced to training resources, practical football sessions and digital tools designed to support coaching and student development. The Football for Schools platform includes football and life-skills content covering areas such as personal understanding, relationships, health and well-being, leadership, communication and active citizenship.
BFA President Anya James commended the coaches for their continued contribution to youth development through sport. She also highlighted the growing involvement of female student-athletes in football across The Bahamas and the importance of creating more opportunities for girls to participate and develop through the game.
The workshop forms part of the BFA’s continued partnership with FIFA and the Ministry of Education to strengthen school football, build the capacity of coaches and provide students with meaningful opportunities to learn, compete and grow through sport.
Through Football for Schools, the BFA remains committed to supporting programmes that connect football with education, life skills and the overall development of young people throughout The Bahamas.
