NASSAU, The Bahamas — May 14th, 2026 — The Bahamas Football Association was represented at the inaugural Concacaf Grassroots Football Conference, held May 12–13, 2026, in Maho Beach, Sint Maarten.
Attending on behalf of the BFA were Vanessa Desinord, Eddie Bethel and Jurelle Mullings.
The two-day conference brought together football leaders and key stakeholders from across the region under the theme, “Concacaf Grassroots Charter: Developing Players, Inspiring People, Transforming Communities.” It also marked the official launch of the Concacaf Grassroots Charter, a framework designed to guide Member Associations in the structured development, delivery and long-term sustainability of grassroots football.
Sessions focused on several areas central to the continued growth of the game, including inclusive participation, increasing opportunities for women and girls, safeguarding, player-centred environments, regional best practices and the development of a shared grassroots football philosophy.
Participants also engaged in presentations, panel discussions, case studies and group exercises aimed at helping Member Associations assess their current grassroots structures and begin developing practical plans for implementing the Charter within their respective countries.
The Charter defines grassroots football as non-elite and non-professional football for all, regardless of age, ability, background or gender, with an emphasis on participation, enjoyment and social development. It promotes accessible, inclusive, educational and safe football environments supported by strong community partnerships and sustainable national structures.
The BFA’s participation reflects its continued commitment to strengthening grassroots football throughout The Bahamas and creating more opportunities for children, young people and communities to engage with the sport.
The conference was hosted by Concacaf at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort in Sint Maarten.
