MIAMI, Florida – Nia Thompson scored twice to pave the way for Grenada’s 6-1 victory over Bahamas in Group C of League C of the Road to W Gold Cup on Wednesday night at Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.
Grenada opened the scoring in the 12’ through Nia Thompson, who started a counterattack and drove the ball into the heart of the Bahamas half before slotting a shot home to hand the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Grenada then doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 36’ thanks to Roneisha Frank, who timed her run perfectly, bursting into the Bahamas half, rounding goalkeeper Melina McClure and sweeping in a shot.
Bahamas would pull a goal back, though, right before halftime to make it 2-1 at the break. A misplay in the back from Grenada saw the ball spill to Demitra McClure, who did not hesitate and curled a left-footed shot into net.
Bahamas tried to get back on even terms, but Grenada looked the more dangerous of the two and Thompson would score her second of the night in the 74’ on a powerful left-footed strike to give Grenada a crucial insurance score and a 3-1 lead.
A red card to Brianna Capron in the 76’ complicated Bahamas’ hope of a late comeback and Grenada made the most of it, with Malia Ramdhanny tacking on a fourth goal in the 79’ by squeezing in a free kick for a 4-1 lead.
Ronniellia Bubb extended the scoreline to 5-1 in the 83’ with a left-footed effort that before Abigail Williams sealed the 6-1 victory in the final minute of second half stoppage time.
