Four different countries from the Caribbean – Barbados, Bahamas, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago – participated in the grassroots program that involved 224 schools and over 2,000 children between the ages of 9-11.
Each of the registered schools participated in a six-week academy-football for social change program, which combined football with valuable life skills and social values.
None of the program’s success would have been possible without the hard work of the coaches, spearheaded by Concacaf Development Manager Andre Waugh, who led a team through a two-day certification process, which included the Concacaf E License, Concacaf Leadership and Safeguards Module in order for the children to receive the best coaching possible.
At the conclusion of the six-week academy program, each country hosted a 2-3 weekend tournament in which one school from each country was crowned champion and received a generous donation from Concacaf partner Scotiabank.
