In February 2019, The Bahamas Football Association and the Student Athlete Resources and support (STARS) division of the Ministry of Education, collaborated on the hosting of the Inaugural College Soccer Showcase.
Local Female Student Athletes Took Advantage Of Full and Partial Soccer Scholarships With Tertiary Education
This showcase exposed over one hundred Bahamian youth players to college coaches over a period of two days.
They had the opportunity to be coached by five coaches on the ground as well as be seen by over seventy five coaches via livestreaming.
Coming out of this opportunity six players took advantage of the opportunity afforded them through full scholarships as well as significant partial scholarships
The six players are already enrolled and are preparing for their first soccer season and they are roaring to go.
The players are:
Savanah Rolle- Allen University
Laurann Brown- Dodge City Community College
Devonter Thompson- Pratt Community College
Tyra McKenzie- Arizona Western College
McKell Yallop – Arizona Western College
Kenyonique Thompson – Mount Mary College.
The Bahamas Football Association and the organizers of the STARS Program are already in the planning stages of the 2020 Edition of the Showcase.
Jurelle Nairn-Mullings of the STARS Program encourages all soccer athletes to get their grades up, improve their skills and be ready for the opportunity when it presents itself. Parents are also asked to avail themselves of the STARS program so that they too are ready for the opportunities’ opening up.
